Madghoot

Terms

Madghoot terms of use

You can download Madghoot free, try everything for 14 days, and keep extracting, compressing and converting with a one-time $1.99 unlock. These terms explain the rest in plain English.

Updated

The deal

  • Download: free from the Mac App Store.
  • Free trial: 14 days with every feature, started by a $0 in-app purchase named “14-day Trial”. Nothing is charged automatically when it ends.
  • Lifetime unlock: a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase ($1.99 in the US; the App Store shows the price in your local currency). There is no subscription.
  • Always free: opening archives, viewing and searching what's inside, Quick Look previews, settings and Restore Purchases.

The app shows this disclosure before any purchase: “Free for 14 days with everything included. After that, extracting, compressing and converting need the lifetime unlock ($1.99, one time). Viewing what's inside an archive stays free. Nothing is charged automatically and there's no subscription.”

License

Madghoot is licensed to you, not sold. Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies, together with the App Store's usage rules: you can use Madghoot on the Macs you own or control that are signed in with your Apple ID, and Family Sharing is supported. Please don't redistribute the app or resell the unlock.

Open-source components

Madghoot includes open-source software: libarchive (BSD 2-clause, with one BSD 3-clause file), zstd (BSD 3-clause), lz4 (BSD 2-clause), xz (0BSD) and 7-Zip's 7zz program (GNU LGPL 2.1 or later with the unRAR restriction, plus BSD-licensed parts). Their own licenses apply to those components, and nothing in these terms limits your rights under them. License texts are in the app under Settings › About, and the 7-Zip source page explains how to get the source code.

Using Madghoot responsibly

Only extract, compress and share files you have the right to. Don't use Madghoot to break the law or to infringe anyone's rights. Apps and scripts that come out of an archive can be harmful, so open them only if you trust where they came from.

Your files

Madghoot is careful by design: it never overwrites an existing file, extracts into a hidden temporary folder before moving results into place, and tests the archives it creates. Still, no software is perfect, and archives can be damaged before they reach you. Keep a backup of anything you can't afford to lose. Madghoot doesn't repair damaged archives; it extracts what it can read and tells you what it couldn't.

Refunds

Apple processes all payments, so refunds go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't issue refunds ourselves because we never see your payment details.

Disclaimer

To the extent the law allows, Madghoot is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, as described in Apple's license agreement. We work hard to keep it reliable and to fix problems quickly, but we can't promise it will be error-free or open every archive.

Limitation of liability

To the extent your local law allows, our total liability for any claim related to Madghoot is limited to the amount you paid for it ($1.99 in the US). Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer protection law that can't be waived.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and material changes are noted in the changelog. Continuing to use Madghoot after a change means you accept the updated terms.
